Sensei Josh Mehl began his training at the Isshinryu Karate Academy of Pittsburgh on August 5, 1996. After six years of training at the Academy, he received the rank of Sho-Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) on August 24, 2002. He currently holds the rank of San-Dan (3rd Degree Black Belt), which was awarded to him on October 23, 2010. Each of his black belt promotions have been received directly from Hanshi William H. Duessel, 10th Dan and are also endorsed through the Isshinryu World Karate Association and Master Kichiro Shimabuku, 10th Dan.


Sensei Mehl is a dedicated, valued, and well respected instructor within the Isshinryu Karate Academy of Pittsburgh. He currently assists with teaching the children’s and the advanced kyu/black belt classes within the dojo. Additionally, Sensei Mehl has competed as a Brown Belt in the 1999 IWKA Championships and has competed as a Black Belt at every IWKA Isshinryu World Karate Championship competition since 2005.
